City Cousin, Country Cousin

 Happy Friday!

I’m finalizing query letters but in the meantime, I came up with a new story idea.

During a trip to visit her cousin in the country, Carly from the city learns that names of flora and fauna don’t always make sense. Through laughter and misunderstanding, Sylvia shares all her favorites with her cousin on a walk to the pond to see the cattails. 

As I was coming up with the different misnomers, my husband and I were laughing so hard. The trick is getting all that onto the page! I’m really excited to get the story fully fleshed out and can envision a part two where Sylvia visits Carly.

Everyday Wonder #2 - The Sun and Moon at Once

 I stepped out this morning for an early personal training client and was greeted by a balmy breeze. It’s very out of season but what isn’t these days? I was delighted to see the moon shining against the slate sky. It wasn’t muted like usual. It was a night moon in a morning sky. Across was the neon pink sunrise getting ready to go on stage.  The sunrise is unique every morning. It changes rapidly while the sun makes its way past the horizon. By the time I got to the facility, the sunrise had settled into calm, blue hues and pastel pinks. I could’ve ran through the door instead of taking one more glance at the sunrise. A ordinary moment turned into something memorable. There was an added bonus: it was the inspiration I needed to finish a couplet on which I was stuck. Wonder is all around us.

Hi, hello, and welcome!

I am so happy you’re here. It had never occurred to me to be a writer growing up so the fact that you’re reading these words is such a delight. I imagine this feeling doesn’t go away no matter how many books someone has written. This blog will serve as a documentary for my journey into the kid lit world.  I have fond memories visiting the library as a kid but I was not an avid reader. I remember liking the pictures over the words in books.  Sweet Valley Girls  was the first series to capture my attention. My second grade teacher really hoped I would move on but alas, she was destined to read about another blonde twin adventure for all my book reports.  While I always read the books assigned for school, it was a breakup and the Twilight series that brought me to reading for pleasure.
